The third installment of the now legendary Kia Cold Hawaii PWA World Cup is just around the corner, as the elite of the wave sailing world prepare to descend once again onto the shores of Klitmøller, Denmark, from the 17th until the 23rd September.

Klitmøller is located in Northern Jutland, just ten kilometers southwest of Hantsholm, what once was a quaint little fishing village is now being heralded as one of the wave sailing gems of Europe. Its reputation is such that, Klitmøller, is now more commonly known as Cold Hawaii, due to the fact that it bares the brunt of the biggest storms in Northern Europe. This may be less than ideal for the fisherman, but it does provide the perfect playground for the most radical sailors in the world to contort themselves into mind-blowing maneuvers, as they take full advantage of the world class waves and howling winds.

What’s the deal?

Seven days of wave sailing heaven as the world’s most radical sailors prepare to deliver another show stopping display in the penultimate event of the year. Forty three of the finest wave sailors in the world are preparing to battle it out, in the ferocious wind and waves of the North sea, for the €35,000 prize purse, as well as those crucial world tour points as the season heads towards its pinnacle.

Ones to Watch

Philip Köster (Starboard / NeilPryde / Maui Ultra Fins) is without doubt the man that everyone will have their eyes on. In the opening two events of the 2012 season the wonder kid has dominated the proceedings with his extraordinary repertoire of jumping and wave riding maneuvers. Expect to see Köster rotating through more trademark double forwards, as he continues to fire on all cylinders as he bids to make it a hat-trick of 2012 event victories.

Currently occupying second place in the rankings is the 2010 world champion, Victor Fernandez (Fanatic / North). The Spanish man has been unleashing his renowned, aggressive wave riding style throughout the season and we expect to see more epic wave rides and astronomical loops as he looks to dethrone Köster. Fernandez has been out in Klitmøller ahead of the event to make sure he is fully prepared for the start of the competition, no matter the conditions.

Alex Mussolini (Tabou / Gaastra) has fought his way into the top three after a simply sensational display in Tenerife, where he finished in second place overall. Mussolini’s wave riding is second to none and he’ll be busting out more fluid wave riding combined with the most radical wave 360s to secure his place on the podium.

Meanwhile, Dany Bruch (Starboard / Severne / AL360), has been there or there abouts at each event so far and the German will be right in the thick of the action again. Famed for his silky smooth style on the wave and amazing one footed, one handed backloops, Bruch will be hoping to feature in the top five.

After a phenomenal performance in Pozo, Dario Ojeda (Tabou / Gaastra / MFC) currently sits in fifth place, following a third and ninth so far. The man from Gran Canaria has pulled some of the highest, and most radical double forwards this year to surge his way through the field. Expect to see him continuing to push himself to the limit as he looks to impress the judges.

Ricardo Campello (JP / NeilPryde / MFC) is feared as one of the best jumpers in the world, with his no fear radical attitude making him a serious threat. The Venezuelan maestro was able to win the single elimination in Denmark last year, and he’ll be looking to threaten the podium and Köster again over the coming week.

The Brazilian boys, Marcilio ‘Brawzinho’ Browne (Goya Windsurfing / MFC) and Kauli Seadi (JP / NeilPryde), will be gunning for the top in Denmark. Brawzinho will be rotating through effortless double forwards and stunning backside 360s, whilst Seadi will be demonstrating his unrivaled fluidity on the wave to wow both the crowds and the judges.

Thomas Traversa (Tabou / Gaastra) enjoyed a brilliant year in Denmark in 2011 as he sailed his way into the top four. The Frenchman possesses an irresistible riding style and he’s just as dangerous in the air, making him one of the key men to watch over the course of the competition.

Klaas Voget (Fanatic / Simmer / MFC) currently completes the top ten and the German will be hoping to use his years of training in Klitmoller to storm his way into the top ten. After finishing fourth in Pozo thanks to a scintillating display, Robby Swift (JP / NeilPryde / Mystic / Maui Ultra Fins), is now back to full fitness. A broken toe somewhat hampered his progress in Tenerife, but we expect to see the Brit charging for the top again, the skies the limit for him if he is on form.

There is of course a whole host of sailors who will be challenging for the top ten. The British contingent of John Skye (RRD / Mystic / MFC), Ross Williams (Tabou / Gaastra), Phil Horrocks (Tabou / Gaastra), Ben Proffitt (Simmer), Adam Lewis (Patrik / Point-7) and Jamie Hancock (Tabou / Gaastra) will all be pushing themselves to the limits. As will the local of Klitmøller, Kenneth Danielsen (F2 / Simmer), who will be hoping to use his home advantage to take down his opponents. Finally the event will see the PWA veteran, Lars Peterson (JP / NeilPryde / Maui Ultra Fins), feature once more as he appears on the Klitmoller entry list once more.

The opening two years of the event have seen epic conditions grace the shores of Klitmøller, and Cold Hawaii looks set to deliver again with a superb forecast on the horizon, promising both wind and waves.

The PWA is proud to announce that you will be able to see all the incredible action unfold as it happens by tuning into the live stream on the PWA TV. The first possible start on the 17th September is 1pm, so if conditions allow make sure you tune in.
