Norway preparing for an incredible event

ÑÂÅÒÎÂÅÍ ÄÅÍ ÍÀ ÑÍÅÃÀ - WORLD SNOW DAY. With 10 days to go until the second edition of FIS World Snow Day, Organisers are preparing and finalising all aspects of their events for what is set to be an incredible occasion around the world. Already now, World Snow Day has exceeded expectations and will have a larger number of events than the first edition. Organisers are delivering news of further additions to their events and coupled with the international media campaign thanks to Eurosport, the European Broadcasting Union and Infront, the World Snow Day support team is being inundated with requests from the general public for more information on events. But the exciting news does not stop here.

In addition to the already confirmed 245 Organisers, Norway has announced that the Alpinanleggenes Landsforening (ALF) or Ski Lift Association of Norway has joined forces with the Norwegian Ski Association, Norwegian Snowboard Federation and Sponsor, DNB Bank to create ‘Apen Bakke’ (Open Doors). On World Snow Day (20th January 2013) 99 resorts around Norway will be opening their doors and providing free lift tickets to the general public.

Already 100,000 people have registered for the event and if the trends continue there may be as many as 150,000 participants. ALF Board Member and ex-Alpine World Cup coach Marius Arnsen remarked: “We are really surprised by the level of participation given the time frame we had to organise everything. The key to making the event happen has been the cooperation between ALF, DNB, the Norwegian Ski Association and the Norwegian Snowboard Federation all working together to bring people to snow sports”.

The Chief of Recruitment for the Norwegian Ski Association Helen Ingbretsen added: “This is a huge step to bring children to the snow. The event is attracting people who would not normally go skiing and is bringing people to smaller resorts which normally do not have large numbers of skiers”.

Thanks to DNB, the ‘Apen Bakke’ has received an official promotional trailer which will be broadcast on TV2, shown in cinemas around the country, embedded on the website of Norway’s largest newspaper VG and shown on YouTube.

World Snow Day is set to be an incredible event around the world and FIS would like to thank everyone who is contributing to its organisation.
