Everyone knows skiers love to go fast on skis but according to the number of those who made their way to Monaco for the Grand Prix Monaco Formula 1 weekend, some of them have a thing for fast cars as well.
While enjoying a visit to the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Monaco, back to back Overall World Cup champion Marcel Hirscher confirmed the rumors regarding the eye surgery he underwent in mid May at a clinic in Salzburg.
“I could see less than 30% on one eye and now it feels perfect,” Hirscher said. “It’s a completely new feeling when you all of a sudden can see much better”
Aksel Lund Svindal, who finished second to Hirscher in the Overall mixed work and pleasure while in Monaco. The Norwegian got his share of jet setting while attending an event at the Monte Carlo Palace as an Ambassadors for Princess Charlene's Foundation before moving on to visit the Toro Rosso garage where the team principal, Franz Tost presented Aksel with a steering wheel from Daniel Ricciardo’s race car from 2012.
Tina Weirather, the Speed Queen of the Principality of Liechtenstein, celebrated her 24th birthday in Monaco. The young daughter of Hanni Wenzel and Harti Weirather snapped pictures of the stunning Monaco views and F1 cars, which she shared with her fans on her Facebook Page before a last picture of a gym under which she wrote: “Thanks for the birthday greetings! Monte Carlo was great, but somewhat too short. I am already back in everyday life. And...it's snowing.”
Another speed lady was in Monaco for the weekend but Lara Gut made sure she didn’t neglect her training while at the event. The Swiss skier joined Alexandra Coletti, a Monaco skier in a weight session at the harbor before cheering for Coletti’s younger brother Stefano as he claimed victory in the GP2 race.
This year’s Gumball 3000, the annual British 3,000-mile (4,800 km) international road rally which takes place on a different route around the world each year started in Copenhagen and finished in Monte Carlo just in time for the Grand Prix. This made it the perfect ending to a high-speed tour of Europe for slalom specialist Jens Byggmark and freestyle turned alpine skier Jon Olsson who traditionally enter the rally. After making it to Monaco with their respective cars the Swedish duo went from driving full speed to enjoying the sight of the best drivers in the world handling the tight turns of the Monaco course.
