Тринадесет спортисти бяха избрани за членове на Комисията на Атлетите на ФИС за двугодишния период 2013-2015 от техните колеги по време на FIS World Championships 2013. Официалното обявяване на избора на атлетите, които ще представляват спортистите пред ФИС беше направено след срещата на Съвета на ФИС на 10 юни 2013 в Кавтат-Дубровник (Хурватска):

Новоизбраната Комисия на атлетите ще продължи успешната работа на досегашната комисия, която беше с председател неотдавна състезавалия се за България в стартовете за Световната купа по ски австриец с български паспорт Килиан Албрехт, и чийто мандат изтече тази пролет след четири години ползотворна дейност.
Кикан Рандъл (САЩ) оглавява Комисията на атлетите
По време на първата им среща на 6-ти щни в Cavtat-Dubrovnik, Комисията на атлетите избра състезателката от отбора на САЩ по ски бягане Кикан Рандъл за председател на комисията. Носителката на малката Световна купа по ски бягане в спринта за 2012/13 и световен шампион в отборния спринт през 2013-та вече има зад гърба си 4 години като член на Комисията на атлетите.
"I am excited to be taking on the role as the new Chair of the Athletes’ Commission. We've built a solid foundation over the last four years that we can continue to take forwards and we have great new energy from the incoming members. It has been really encouraging to see the Athletes become a part of the process, enhancing the collaboration with FIS to make our sports even better”, Randall underlined.
Background Information
Athletes have always been at the heart of the International Ski Federation with many Committee Members, Officials and professional staff former athletes, but it was not until the formation of the FIS Athletes’ Commission in 1996 that they were given an official role. The Commission represents the athletes within FIS and discusses and addresses diverse issues that have an impact on athletes across all FIS disciplines.
In 2013, a total of 24 candidates from 12 different nations in the six Olympic disciplines stood for election and athletes who were present and participating at the four World Championships cast their votes. Following an analysis of the results, it proved necessary to conduct re-elections in Nordic Combined and men’s Snowboard in order to adhere to the rules that state that no nation may have more than one representative on the Commission.
