Elite women start first in Marcialonga

SKI CLASSICS. The long distance cross country ski championship Visma Ski Classics is unique in having Professional and Amateur skiers as well as Male and Female athletes on the same start lines. Visma Ski Classics has the last year´s worked hard in order to enlift the professional female skiers competition. Now Marcialonga will have a separate elite female start at 0750, ten minutes before the men elite which starts 0800!

Angelo Corradini, President of Marcialonga explains the new start:
- We have carefully followed the other events in Visma Ski Classics last years when they have tried with having the women elite starting before the men. We believe it has been working very fine! For Marcialonga we believe this is a modern and important decision. Now the professional female skiers can really express their potential in a fair competition. For Marcialonga TV audience it will also be new, as well as for the TV production crews, now we look forward to the race!

David Nilsson, CEO of Visma Ski Classics embraces the decision:
- Ski Classics is very pleased to hear that Marcialonga has taken this decision. Being one of the most traditional races in the tour, it is not an easy decision to change a start procedure that has been the sam for many many years. But we strongly from Ski Classics believe it is the right decision, giving the female skier more publicity by giving the class an own TV skidoo. Making them being able to ski with team tactics, and also making it harder to male "help-riders". Having a separate female start has proven, when used the last season in some Ski Classics, being positive for the athletes, the TV channels as well as for the events. Now all events but Swedish Vasaloppet has a separate elite female start...
