. world snowboard news : Kober and Prommegger triumph in first Parallel Slalom at Bad Gastein - 12 January 2013 - 15:11

SNOWBOARD, PSL. Amelie Kober (GER) and Andreas Prommegger (AUT) have clinched the FIS Snowboard World Cup season's first parallel slalom which was staged in Bad Gastein, Austria, today.

Amelie Kober claimed her career's twelfth World Cup win in the first out of two races held on the Bucheben slope by relegating Austria's Marion Kreiner and Claudia Riegler to second and third respectively.

However, although the 25-years-old is always playing a major role in the knock out round, today's triumph came a little bit surprisingly.

Kober was forced to take it easy over the last couple of weeks due to illness and thus didn't really believe in her chance to land on the top podium spot.

“This win is unbelievable. I never thought of anything like this. I had a lot of doubts because the few training days I had weren't the best. According to this, I'm very happy that it worked out fine for me.”

Prommegger fulfils a dream

On the men's side, Prommegger, who has the momentum to his side after winning the season's opener (PGS) at Carezza, Italy, nailed his career's tenth by edging off Roland Fischnaller (ITA) with the tiny mere of eleven hundredths to the second spot.

This close result thus equaled his first ever win in front of a home crowd. According to this the father of one was all smiles in the finish area.

“Thanks to this win on home soil I can strike this one from my to do list. I wanted a podium finish so badly. I know that the slope suits my riding but so far it always pitched me. Today, the luck was on my side.

I made a mistake in the first run, so I just sneaked into the quarter finals. And also the final was a tight thing. It's a dream come true for me to celebrate this triumph with my fans at home.”

Zan Kosir (SLO) rounded out the podium as third in the first ever Parallel World Cup final to be held in a single run format.
