WORLD SNOW DAY (SKI.BG) -- January 20, 2013, Sunday. While thousands of citizens of the capital are preparing for a warm and sunny afternoon walk in the parks of Sofia, almost spring time, a small group of enthusiasts gathered at the ski slope "White little skier" near "Slavia" stadium to celebrate the World Snow Day on true natural snow.
Today, for the second year in Sofia SKI.BG present initiative of the International Ski Federation FIS - "World Snow Day". SKI.BG and "Slavia" Ski Club, with the support of the Bulgarian Ski Federation, organized this small ski holiday for children and adults to celebrate World Snow Day, and in honour of the celebrations of 100th anniversary of the "Slavia" Ski Club.
The program included free lessons for children leaded by Alpine Ski instructors from "Slavia Ski Club" and free skiing for those who do not participate in group ski lessons. From morning to noon at the ski track passed dozens of children. Despite the positive temperatures, the previous day rain and quickly melting, snow was enough for classes. The children were excited and thrilled and adults were able to enjoy them and take pictures. Winter atmosphere was really there. In the afternoon most avid little skiers gathered for a photo in front of the SKI.BG lens. All ski lessons participants and their parents received some copies of the SKI&BOARD magazine as a gift.
Besides that children brought out into the snow, with this little winter holiday we achieved a very important goal - to show that there is an urban ski slope that attracts children and parents for skiing in the city during the winter. Sofia deserves this track and keep it up, not only as a tradition of "Slavia" skiing club but also a valuable given the harmonious development of the European sports community.
We express sincere gratitude to Mr. Boris Zlatarev - the living legend of "Slavia" Ski Club, Mr. Stefan Zlatarev - President of "Slavia" Ski Club, as well as all members of the "Slavia" Ski Club with whose enthusiasm we made so exciting ski celebration of the World Snow Day in an urban environment.
"White litte skier" slope is located on the north side of the ice rink hall of "Slavia" stadium, at the corner of "Slavia" Str. and "Haydushko Izvorche" Str. in Sofia.
We call upon all public institutions and organizations, corporations and interested individuals to py attention and financially support the project of "Slavia" Ski Club for installing an artificial surface of the ski track, which will create conditions for year-round use.
