WU Trentino 2013: another great performance in Alpine Skiing
УНИВЕРСИАДА, ТРЕНТИНО ИТАЛИЯ, АЛПИЙСКИ СКИ. Безпрецедентно медиино затъмнение от страна на отговорните български лица игнорира факта, че в петък, 13.12.2013г. Георги Георгиев - Гого постигна престижното 8-мо място на спускането от ХХVI Зимна Универсиада Трентино 2013 в италианския зимен център Пасо Сан Пелегрино. Спускането беше спечелено от италианеца Давиде Казанига с време 1:13.00мин. Гого сподели 8-мото място с швейцареца Свен Херман, на +1.89сек от победителя.

Българското академично участие в алпийските дисциплини е в състав Гого, Никола Чонгаров /27-ми в спускането +4.44сек/ и Стефан Присадов.
В събота, 14-ти декември Никола Чонгаров се е пуснал на Супер гигантския слалом в Универсиадата и е постигнал 16-то място с време 1:24.70мин, на +2.38сек от победителя Близ Гезенданер от Франция.
Вчера, 17-ти декември, Стефан Присадов участва на гигантския слалом в университетските игри и се класира 23-ти с време 1:49.91мин, на +2.17сек от победителя Йона Фабр от Франция. В този старт интересен факт е, че първият манш е бил нареден от треньора на българските алпийци словенецът Расто Азнох.
Утре, четвъртък, 19-ти декември Гого, Никола и Стафан ще карат на нощния слалом в Поза ди Фасса, който ще е заключителния старт на мъжете от Универсиадата в алпийските дисциплини.
Защо тази изява на българските алпийци не се афишира пред SKI.BG и масовите български медии, остава загадка!?

Gold medal in Downhill for the Italian Davide Cazzaniga
WINTER UNIVERSIADE. Great performance of the host nation, Italy, in the opening day (December 13th) of the Alpine Skiing competitions of the Winter Universiade Trentino 2013. The Italian team won gold and bronze. Davide Cazzaniga (21), student in sociology in Como, is the current Downhill Italian champion.
He showed the best performance of the day on the Cima Uomo slope in Passo San Pellegrino, followed by France’s Blaise Giezendanner and Italy’s Guglielmo Bosca, student in engineering in Milan. The Italians are well familiar with the slope with a 520m height difference, since Val di Fassa has been the training site of the Italian team of Alpine Skiing for eight years now.
On the women’s side, the Eastern European athletes won all the three medals at stake: Gold to the Russian Valentina Golenkova – who was the only athlete with a finsih time under 1 minute and 18 seconds (1:17.92); Silver to the Slovak Jana Gantnerova (1:18.04) and Bronze to the Polish Karolina Chrapek (1:18.21).
The men’s competition was marked by a French-Italian challenge with these two nations having three athletes in the top six. Today’s top protagonist was Italy’s Davide Cazzaniga (from Lecco Ski Club), capable to make an excellent race on the slope, very technical in its upper part and more harmonious in its final part. Cazzaniga crossed the finish line with a time of 1:13.00, with a margin of 48 hundredths on the French athlete Giezendanner and 73/100 on his fellow countryman Guglielmo Bosca.
On Saturday, December 14th, the same slope will host the race of the men's Super-G, starting at 10.00am.

Davide Cazzaniga: “In the first stage of the competition I had some problem in finding the right pace, afterwards, I found the right determination. It was an amazing day. I am happy, but I ‘m not satisfied about my performance and I won’t celebrate because I really want to repeat this result tomorrow in Super G race. After that, I will think about having a party”.
Blaise Giezendanner: “Winning a medal during an Universiade is an amazing result. I am happy with my ranking, a bit less for my team’s one. My teammates were really close to the podium. It would have been fantastic a triple top result. We’ll try with Super-G”.
Guglielmo Bosca: “This was my first downhill performance of the year: this is a very surprising result. Actually, I am not satisfied on my overall try. I made too many mistakes in the highest part of the track”.
Valentina Golenkova: “It was amazing! A day that I will remember forever. I skied really well with a few imprecisions on a track that even without too many downhill is quite difficult. Really hope to repeat this result in Super G”.
Jana Gantnerova: “I’m happy with my silver medal. I missed the gold medal for just 12 hundredth, so just for a small imprecision. But it is anyway a very good result”.
Gaia Martinelli: “Unfortunately, this was not a good performance. I hope to do better in Super-G”.

France one, two in Super G at the 26th Winter Universiade Trentino 2013
Blaise Giezendanner, silver medal winner of Friday's downhill, concluded his race in 1:22.32 forerunning his team-mate Nicola Raffort of 55 hundredths and Italy's Gugliemo Bosca of 80 hundredths at Passo San Pellegrino.

The French team felt particularly well on this race trail, designed by a French coach, after Friday’s upset in Super G, when the Bleus were able to take just one medal while placing three athletes in the top six.
Giezendanner was strong in the first and most difficult part of the slope with its numerous corners and layed the foundation for victory.
The Italian team had to settle for bronze achieved by Gugliemo Bosca from Milan confirming his excellent performance after the third place in Friday‘s downhill.
For Davide Cazzaniga - winner of Friday’s downhill - this was not a lucky day. In the split time he signed the second best performance, but then he missed a gate and didn’t finish the race.
Tomorrow, another competition, Ladies‘ Super G, will take place in Passo San Pellegrino starting at 10am. In Val di Fassa usually the Italian national Alpine skiing team trains.
Karlheinz Töchterle, the Austrian Minister for science and research, gave the awards at the Flower Ceremony, together with Winter Universiade Trentino 2013 president’s Sergio Anesi, and Ms. Daria De Petris, University of Trento’s dean.

Blaise Giezendanner (FRA): “I’m really happy with my performance because I knew I could make it. It is a very good personal result as well as a team’s one. Tonight we will finally party. This is my first time in Passo San Pellegrino, it is a fantastic place and I like the track very much for its variety. The first part was pretty technical and the final one easier. My next competition is the Giant slalom in Pozza di Fassa -no slalom competition for me”.
Nicola Raffort (FRA): “Now I am finally happy, after yesterday’s medal lost for a few hundredths of a second. I was really motivated to do my best – and I succeeded. Blaise is really unbeatable, and for this reason I’m satisfied with my performance. This is a medal I will never forget”.
Guglielmo Bosca (ITA): “If anyone would have told me I was going to win two medals in speed races at the Universiade, I wouldn’t have cared. This year, I didn’t almost train these disciplines. But I won two wonderful bronze medals! I dedicate them to the memory of my grandmother Giampiera, recently passed away, and to the great Amato Cerise [Italian ski-coach from Lombardia], passed away a few days ago because of a terrible illness. My Universiade is not over yet. There are still technical competitions coming up and I hope to have the same results, even if the names oft he start list promise though races”.

WU Trentino 2013: another great performance in Alpine Skiing
Italy gained its fourth medal - and second gold - in the Alpine Skiing competitions of the Winter Universiade Trentino 2013, on Passo San Pellegrino, in Val di Fassa. Giulia Borghetti, 23-year-old, won the SuperG (1:28:58), followed by Poland’s Karolina Chrapek (+0.15) and Russia’s Valentina Golenkova (+0.79). The Polish and the Russian skiers have thus picked up their second medal. Indeed, they had respectively won the bronze and the silver medal in the Downhill race held on Friday, December 13th.
The Italian student in Philosophy won gold thanks to her great perseverance, considering the fact that over the last few years her sports career had been heavily marked by injuries, injuring her knees and one of her arms. Giulia was particularly focused during the race, able to find the right rhythm since the very first gates and to further accelerate in the final part of the trail, which requires more speed. Giulia’s parents were waiting for her at the finish line and hugged her, misty-eyed: a truly moving family picture.
Slight disappointment on the face of Karolina Chrapek, racing in the first group: she was almost sure of her victory, when her dream was broken by the Italian skier and she fell behind for 15 hundredths. The shy Russian athlete, Valentina Golenkova (+ 0.79), took the bronze medal after committing few little mistakes here and there.
The speed races on the Passo San Pellegrino are therefore over. Now it is time for the technical specialties, planned on the Alloch slope, in Pozza di Fassa: the Men’s GS on Tuesday, the Women’s GS on Wednesday, and the night-time slaloms on Thursday for the women and on Friday for the men.

Giulia Borghetti (ITA): “This medal has a special value for me: a great reward after many difficulties and bad luck. Over the last few years, I suffered many injuries: I tore my knee cruciate ligaments three times and I had a fracture in my arm as well. However, I have never given up, skiing has always been my great passion and I wanted my strong will to be rewarded with an important result. And it finally came! I am very happy and I want to dedicate my victory to my coach, Corrado Castoldi, and to my parents, who have always supported me throughout the difficult times.”
Karolina Chrapek (POL): “It's a pity: I missed gold only by 15 hundredths. I skied well and I was resolute. I did not make any serious mistakes. I was already convinced I had won, and then my Italian rival arrived and took gold away from me. Anyway the balance is positive, considering I won two medals.”
Valentina Golenkova (RUS): “I made some mistakes, thus ruining my whole performance. I was not as good as in the Downhill race, but it's ok. I got two medals at the Universiade: an excellent result.”

France’s Fabre upsets Italy
The challenge between France and Italy in the Alpine Skiing events at the 26th Winter Universiade Trentino 2013 keeps going on in Val di Fassa. In men’s giant slalom, victory went to Jonas Fabre who upset the host nation of this multi-sport event in the Dolomites.
Fabre (1:47.74) took the gold medal in Giant Slalom and outpaced his team-mate Thibaut Favrot and the Italian competitor Giulio Bosca who both placed second with just 28 hundredths of a second behind the winner.
Fabre’s success was expected, because the 20-year-old champion is highly reputated at international level. In addition to this, he performed an excellent first run and took the lead already at half-time. In the second run, he confirmed his excellent performance. Giulio Bosca, now holding a brand new University of Milan degree in European Economics, came from behind and stormed from ninth to the podium, while Favrot recovered from the 5th to the 2nd place.
This Winter Universiade Trentino 2013 is characterised by a family challenge featuring Milan-born Boscas brothers. Today Giulio, the 23-year-old and elder one, won the silver medal in giant slalom, whereas Gugliemo, the 20-year-old athlete, gained two bronze medals in SuperG and Downhill in Passo San Pellegrino. There is still the Special Slalom to go in the night race on Thursday, again in Alloch Skistadium in Pozza di Fassa.
Hig Roberts (USA) and Maarten Meiners (NED) were second and third after the first run but slipped then respectively to the 7th and 4th positions. Meiners missed the podium by just 4 hundredths.
One of the favorites, Slovak Adam Zampa, ruined his performance in the first manche with a big mistake that did not let him place further than the 23th place. His second downhill went better, but his comeback stopped at the ninth place.
THEY SAID
Jonas Fabre pointed out: "I really wanted to win and I did it! I am very happy for my personal achievement, but especially for our French team who is doing very well at this Universiade. Despite participating in many Europa Cup races, this is the first time I compete on this very challenging and optimally prepared track. Now I hope to do the same in the slalom, although it will be more difficult because the specialists in this discipline are many. I dedicate this victory to my mother and my team".
Giulio Bosca says: "I'm very glad. My second run was great, although I could have done even better. In the second run, I hesitated twice but I managed to keep the racing lines. Over the last few days, seeing my brother on the podium made me very happy, but I also wanted to leave my mark and that’s what I did. In the slalom competition I'll try to finish positively this fantastic experience, which gives me enough energy and enthusiasm for the rest of the season".
Thibaut Favrot says: "In the first run I wasn’t able to find the right pace in the central part of the track. In the second, I gave all my best, I managed to recover and get on the podium. Another great team result - this is a fantastic medal."
