. world ski news : Maiden win in Super-G for Corinne Suter - 09 February 2020 - 14:36

ALPINE SKI. Despite racing under clear-blue skies, the course was demanding with icy and bumpy surface and with tricky course set. After winning her first World Cup race a month ago in Zauchensee, Corinne Suter (SUI) repeats herself in super-g, proving her skiing consistency in both disciplines. The last few weeks have been difficult for the Swiss skier, but she finally regains the victory and the red bib in super-g in the final race of the three straight weeks of speed races. Suter beat Nicole Schmidhofer (AUT) by 0.43 seconds and her Swiss teammate Wendy Holdener (SUI) by seven-tenths becoming the fifth different winner in five super-G races this season.

Nicole Schmidhofer (AUT) came back on the podium after Lake Louise's Downhill victory and for the swiss Holdener is the second podium in Super G showing now to be able to ski at the top in 4 different disciplines.

The wooden spoon of today's race goes to Tiffany Gauthier (FRA) who finished in fourth by a mere of 0,01 cent from her first career podium.

The pre-race favourite, the super-G standings leader Federica Brignone (ITA), finished fifth at 0.90sec back and closed the gap to the leading Mikaela Shiffrin (USA) to 145 points.

After claiming the first downhill win of her career 24 hours before, Viktoria Rebensburg (GER) suffered a heavy fall on the tricky mid-section nicknamed 'Hell' and Sofia Goggia (ITA) also suffered a substantial fall in the mid-section and had to be untangled from the safety nettings. It caused a dislocated radius fracture in the left arm and the premature end of the season.

The women are coming back to shorter skis, and they travel to Kranjska Gora in Slovenia for giant slalom and slalom next weekend.
