Fischer the one to beat in the overall World Cup

Kostelic clinches third place to increase lead

Two safe runs – and Ivica Kostelic (CRO) is back on the winners' podium again. The Croatian continued his sensational streak of success, taking another third place. The outstanding technical specialist picked up a valuable 60 points in the breathtaking atmosphere of the Night Race in Schladming.

Kilian Albrecht (BUL) placed 19th at the Night Race

Kostelic, who had already taken over as leader in the overall World Cup on Sunday in Kitzbuehel, now has a 75-point lead over the second-placed racer in the World Cup standings. Not enough to rest on his laurels, but certainly sufficient to stake a claim to the title and the large crystal globe. The goal of winning the overall World Cup is gradually becoming realistic for the 29-year-old. "It's extremely tight, but the chance is there. For me it means that I simply have to continue to fight hard in all disciplines," says the World Cup leader.

Possible premiere for Fischer

Fischer knows that you shouldn't count your chickens before they are hatched, which is why nobody has really wanted to discuss leading the title race so far. But yesterday's success with Kostelic has changed that, and Siegi Voglreiter has also indicated his hopes. "Ivica still has a long way to go. He will have to go all out for it and not think too much about overall victory. If he manages to do so, then all doors will be open for him," says the Fischer Racing Director, normally quite reserved but absolutely convinced about his protege. The Fischer athletes caused nothing short of a sensation last year, winning three small crystal globes. However, there has never been an overall World Cup winner in the history of the company…

"Old boys" still in touch

Two racers who have already seen a lot in the skiing world are putting down the gas pedal again. Austrian evergreen Kilian Albrecht competes for Bulgaria and changed to Fischer skis just recently. He drew attention to himself yesterday with an extremely fast split time and fourteenth place after the first run. He went on to finish 19th, his second points win of the year after taking 17th place in Kitzbuehel. Urs Imboden (MDA) has also finished regularly among the top 30 this season. This time it was 23rd place and another performance you can count on. Both the idealist, who actually comes from Switzerland and competes for Moldavia, and Albrecht have something special in common – a true passion for skiing.
