Board sports enthusiasts and other athletes aren’t the only people who have taken rides on the Indo Board

Indoboarding is a workout that will have you doing a major balancing act. Just because beach weekends are behind us, it doesn't mean you can't still "Hang 10," to get that surfer workout or even the feel of skateboarding or snowboarding. And how about taking things indoors? NY1 edged its way into Crunch Fitness Club, where a workout called "Indoboarding" is "like totally rad" these days.

"There's a huge trend with snowboarding and surfboarding and even skateboarding. And some of those sports, snowboarding and surfboarding, are dependant on the weather and the climate," said instructor Marc Santa Maria. "So, we wanted to come up with an alternative solution where you can workout indoors and find as close to the experience as you would on that outdoor sport."

Anyone who has tried an extreme sport knows it is no joke. And neither is this. For a well-balanced workout, participants try to keep steady on boards resting on top of rollers or inflatable cushions. While there aren't any big waves, half pipes, or blustery mountain passes here, using body bars and soft weight balls adds to the challenge.

"The 'Indoboarding' class is really good for you because it is functional training and uses your core constantly," said Santa Maria. "On top of that, the legs and the arms have to be active to keep things in control."

The trick is to keep the board from touching the ground.

"I was always interested in surfing. I'm taking classes. I went to Hawaii and surfed, but I didn't do very well," said participant Nelson Tejada. "I really wanted to find a class, so, when I found this class, I went, 'I'm taking this class.' And it's been very difficult."

"I always thought of myself as having really good balance. I did a lot of balance training classes before. But this is just totally different," said participant Jessica Rosenberg.

The other thing about this workout, is that you can find the equipment at some sports stores or online and use it at home. Just make sure there's someone around to spot you when you try it. You don't want to wipe-out.
