. world ski news : Women's training canceled Saturday, Olympic super-combined race postponed - 13 February 2010 - 01:08

Olympic organizers have canceled the women's downhill training run scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday morning, meaning the women's Olympic super-combined race scheduled for Sunday will have to be moved.

It is required that racers have at least one complete training run prior to a downhill or downhill combined race in order for the race to happen.

Officials said it will be challenging enough to run the Olympic men's downhill race, scheduled for 11:45 a.m. local time on Saturday, with wet, soggy snow conditions after rain early Friday morning and more inclement weather - rain, snow and fog - in the forecast.

Friday's rain left the snow soft and dangerous for racing and training Friday, thus both men's and women's downhill training runs were canceled.

The men were able to have one official training run on Thursday on a shortened course. The first scheduled men's training run was canceled on Wednesday due to weather after about half the starters finished.

Women's training runs were canceled Thursday and Friday due to weather, though the racers were able to inspect the course both days.

Organizers will do everything they can to run the men's Olympic downhill on Saturday and hope to run a women's training run on Sunday, though the rescheduled time of the postponed women's Olympic super-combined race is yet to be determined after the men's downhill tomorrow.
