. world ski news : Red-hot Miller wins World Cup super-G - 29 November 2004 - 13:35

LAKE LOUISE, Canada. American Bode Miller won a men's World Cup super-G, capturing his second race in as many days and his third in three starts so far this season.

Miller, trying to become the first American since Phil Mahre in 1983 to capture the overall World Cup title, clocked 1min 28.18sec to add the super-G to the downhill victory he claimed here Saturday.

Reigning overall World Cup champion Hermann Maier of Austria was second in 1:28.32, and fellow Austrian Michael Walchhofer was third in 1:28.73.

Maier, who returned from a career-threatening motorcycle accident to reclaim the overall title for a third time last season, had dominated the super-G at Lake Louise winning three times here.

On Sunday, his time at the first interval was faster than Miller's, but in the end he didn't have enough to displace the red-hot American.

The race was marred by crash by Canadian Vincent Lavoie, who suffered a suspected broken leg and was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Calgary.
