ALPINE SKI WORLD CUP. For today’s ladies super G in St. Moritz Northern winds were predicted, which turned out to be too strong so that the race eventually had to be cancelled after only 6 skiers. Lara Gut (SUI) was in the lead before the race was called off.
In the morning the weather conditions were better than expected with slight snowfall and some fog. Unfortunately, the winds picked up in the course of the morning and eventually forced the organizers to cancel the race after the start was first postponed by an hour.
“We did not have a stable enough weather situation today to provide for safe and fair conditions. There were strong wind gusts and tail winds especially in the upper section, which have an impact on the athletes’ speeds. There were also no clear signs that the situation was going to improve in the afternoon. Faced with this, we had no other option than to cancel the race, mainly also out of safety considerations.
For Monday, the weather situation is about to stay the same with only a 50:50 % chance for carrying out the race. Based on that, it was decided in agreement with the organizing committee to cancel the super G and look for a replacement organizer. Val d’ Isère may lend itself to replace the cancelled super G in St. Moritz. Confirmation will follow as soon as possible”, Atle Skaardal, FIS Chief Race Director Ladies, said after the cancellation of today’s race.

The cancelled Ladies' SG from St. Moritz will be replaced in Val d'Isère on Friday, 17.12.2010.
