ALPINE SKI WORLD CUP. MARIBOR, Slovenia – Hopefully the Golden Fox will have a more wintery place to call home next year. When overnight temperatures failed to come anywhere close to freezing, officials canceled Sunday’s World Cup ladies slalom in Maribor.

Following Saturday’s giant slalom cancelation, organizers and race officials began working feverishly to treat the snow on the course – using water, salt and chemicals – making every possible effort to render conditions suitable for Sunday’s slalom. But after almost two weeks of high temperatures soaring to 15 degrees Celsius and not falling under 4 degrees, it wasn’t possible to manipulate the snow into any sot of reliable consistency.
