. world ski news : Stoch wins - Malysz on the podium - 20 March 2011 - 13:43

SKI JUMPING WORLD CUP. The last winner of the season is Kamil Stoch. The Pole followed in the footsteps of his teammate Adam Malysz, who made his final competition today. Stoch won after only one round in Planica with a jump on 215.5 m and 217.3 points. He was followed by Slovenian local hero Robert Kranjec, who showed the longest jump of the day with 224.5 m but with 215.0 points he was behind Stoch.

The conditions were difficult today with strong and changing winds, so many of the jumpers could not achieve a top result. Anders Jacobsen, Michael Neumayer, Matti Hautamaeki and Andreas Kofler had very bad conditions. Others had more luck.

Adam Malysz landed on the podium one more time in his last competition. It was his 92nd podium result. "We had to wait long. The weather is nice, but it was difficult. Of course I'm satisfied, this was a good final jump", said Malysz.

Emotional end of the career of Adam Malysz

Malysz ended his great career this Sunday. In his last official jump he had a lot of tail wind, but it would not be him if he could not jump on 216.5 m even under this conditions. In the outrun he was already awaited by coaches and athletes. One last time the famous "Planica-song" was played in his honor.

On his skis he had written "Thank You" in Finnish to thank his coach Hannu Lepistoe who could not come to Planica due to health problems. The athletes in front of the TV in the athlete's village applauded and so did the fans. Simon Ammann and Tom Hilde even jumped with mustaches.

Schlierenzauer wins ski flying World Cup

Gregor Schlierenzauer was fourth and won the ski flying World Cup ahead of his teammate Martin Koch.

Best Norwegian was Anders Bardal as fifth, ahead of Severin Freund, who was once again the best of the Germans. Overall World Cup winner Thomas Morgenstern came in seventh, followed by Wolfgang Loitzl and Johan Remen Evensen. Head coach Mika Kojonkoski gave the starting signal to his jumpers for the last time after nine successful years.

Chedal good eleventh

Emmanuel Chedal had a good season final with an eleventh place. Jan Matura from the Czech Republic was 13th. Only the Top 30 of the overall World Cup could participate on Sunday, and all of them paid tribute to Adam Malysz at the end.
