WINDSURFING RS:X. Leading up to this RS:X European Windsurfing Championships, the thermal breeze has switched on at 1300hrs or thereabouts and quickly built to 15 knots and then some. Race day one was no exception.

Champagne racing conditions in bright sunshine and three races were completed in all fleets. It really was pedal to the metal. The men were tracking along the top reach from buoy 1 to 2 at 25 knots. The women at 21 knots. This race site is one of the best we've found… Long sandy beach, shallow entry into the sea, so no surf and a wide open race area just offshore with a perfect onshore breeze. The sailors are impressed !

In the RS:X Men's fleet, world champion Piotr Myszka (POL82) and Byron Kokalanis (GRE8) in the orange fleet had a ding dong battle all day. Byron with a 1-1-2 and Piotr with a 2-2-1 are now just one point apart. Back in 3rd overall, Nimrod Mashiah (ISR21) leads the blue group with a 4-1-1.

Richard Stauffacher (SUI31) and Pierre Le Coq (FRA77) also in the blue group are 4th and 5th tonight after a good day 'in the office'

Sadly Joao Rodrigues (POR75) cannot say the same. OCS'd in race one, DNF in race 2 and DNS in race 3. Joao has retired to his hotel feeling very much under the weather with a tummy bug. Let's hope he recovers quickly.

Over in the RS:X women's fleet, Lee Korzits (ISR1111) has a perfect score having stamped her authority on a 'class' fleet including Sofia Klapecka (POL8) - 2nd, Bryony Shaw (GBR94) - 3rd, Blanca Manchon (ESP1) and Marina Alabau (ESP5).

Marina blew the second start of the day and picked up 50 points so is carrying her discard already as is Olga Maslivets (UKR9) who DNF'd the last race of the day

They say that you cannot win the regatta on the first day but you can certainly lose it right then and there by putting in a bad result and adding to pressure unnecessarily

These two amongst others have now got to be super consistent throughout and hope that 12 races or more races are completed so the second discard kicks in…

RS:X Youth Europeans: Day 1 Report

In the RS:X Youth Men’s fleet, Marcin Urbanowicz (POL011) leads by 3 points this evening after a brilliant day’s racing in champagne conditions? Bright sunshine, relatively flat sea and 15-18 knots of sea breeze.

Leading up to this RS:X Youth European Windsurfing Championships, it has switched on at 1300hrs or thereabouts and quickly built to 15 knots straight out of the East.

Race day one was no exception and allowed three races to be completed in all fleets. It really was pedal to the metal. The RS:X Youth men were tracking downwind at up to 25 knots. The women at 21 knots.

This race site is one of the best we’ve found? Long sandy beach, shallow entry into the sea, so no surf and a wide open race area just offshore with a perfect onshore breeze. The sailors are impressed !

Over in the RS:X Youth Women’s Agnieszka Bliska (POL09) leads the fleet and a pack of 7 Polish women in the top 10. The Team dominates the top 3 places with Kamila Smekala (POL104) in 2nd and Barbara Dmuchowska (POL118)

Laura Kishon (ISR34), Anastasia Valkevich (BLR737) and Noelle Finch (GBR703) are the only 3 to break into this exclusive club

Започнаха гонките от Европейското по уиндсърфинг клас RS:X в Бургас
19-годишният Йоан Колев влезе в челната десетка на първата гонка при мъжете

УИНДСЪРФИНГ RS:X. Най-младият български участник на Европейското първенство по ветроходство за олимпийския уиндсърфинг клас RS:X Йоан Колев записа отличен първи старт. Той влезе в челната десетка от 89 сърфисти на първата гонка при мъжете.

19-годишният Йоан се движеше 5-ти след първото катерене на първи знак, после мина 8-ми на същата точка и накрая след слалома успя да финишира 10-ти. Радостта му обаче беше за кратко, защото във втората гонка го дисквалифицираха за фалстарт. В третата той отново показа, че е голямата надежда на този български спорт, като стана 17-ти. В общото подреждане след първия ден зае 64-то място.

От останалите българи олимпиецът от Атина 2004 г. Веселин Нанев е 76-и с 28-о и 26-о място и незавършена гонка (НФ). Ветеранът Стоил Стоилов е 76-и с 36 и 25-о и НФ 1 гонка, Златко Маринов – 82-и с 39-о, 34-о и НФ, а Цветомир Тодоров – 84-и с дисквалификация за фалстарт, 34-о място и НФ. Тези резултати обаче са временни, тъй като от вторник най-лошите гонки на всеки състезател ще се изхвърлят от класирането му.

След първия ден при мъжете поведе гъркът Байрон Кокаланис с 1, 1, 2-о място, пред поляка Пьотр Миска – 2, 2, 1 и лидера в световната ранглиста Нимрод Машиах от Израел – 4, 4, 1.

При жените от двете ни представителки по-класно каране показа участничката в три летни олимпиади Ирина Константинова Бонтам, капитан на отбора на България – 16-а след 20, 20 и 17-о място. Пепа Мавродиева е 33-а от общо 49 участнички с 34, 35 и 29-о място. Първа с три победи в гонките е Лий ел Корзиц от Израел, следвана от полякинята София Клапецка с 2, 2, 3 и Брьони Шоу от Великобритания с 4, 4, 10.

В първия състезателен ден вятърът по двете дистанции беше отличен, със скорост от 11 до 15 възела и посока изток – югоизток. Международното съдийско жури даде висока оценка на организаторите за бързото разполагане на дистанциите по двете трасета и прецизната съдийска работа.

В неделя вечерта европейското първенство беше открито официално след парада на участниците в Морската градина в Бургас от кмета на града Димитър Николов и от председателя на федерацията ни по ветроходство Чавдар Александров.

След като изслушаха на крака българския химн, зрителите в летния театър посрещнаха с ръкопляскания представянето на Ирина Константинова като капитан на националите ни. Точно в мига, когато водещият спомена името й, в небето над сцената се вдигна цяло ято бели гълъби.
