FIS. The annual FIS Autumn Technical Committee Meetings will be held traditionally at the Hotel Hilton Zurich Airport from 5th to 9th October. With meetings of the discipline-specific Committees, Sub-Committees and various working groups, the approximately 500 participants from the extended FIS Family can look forward to an interesting week.

Starting the week, the FIS World Ski Championships Candidates for 2016/2017 will present their bids to the FIS Inspection Group. The Alpine Candidates are Ǻre (SWE), Cortina (ITA) and St. Moritz (SUI), and the Nordic Candidates Lahti (FIN), Oberstdorf (GER), Planica (SLO) and Zakopane (POL). For the combined Freestyle Skiing and Snowboard Championships, Sierra Nevada (SPA) is the sole candidate while Kulm (AUT) is applying for the 2016 FIS Ski Flying World Championships. Each of the Candidates will have approximately one hour to present their bids which will be followed by discussion with and feedback from the FIS Inspection Group on each of the specific topics: sports technical and organisational aspects, broadcasting, media services, marketing, festival, ceremonies, promotional activities and legal aspects, security, organisational structure and other areas. The election by the FIS Council will take place in Kangwonland, Korea, next spring at the FIS Congress 2012.

The traditional FIS Youth and Children's Seminar will take place on Wednesday, 5th October, with a networking evening the day before. More than 50 participants representing 40 National Ski Associations have signed up. Focus of the seminar will be on the inaugural World Snow Day 2012 during the morning session. Presenters include a representative from the IOC who will be sharing the successful concept of the "Olympic Day", followed by Organizers and National Ski Associations who have already joined the World Snow Day with specific activities. The afternoon session will present possibilities for summer activities for winter sports athletes. As a highlight, the Norwegian Ski Association in cooperation with the Swiss Ski Association will present live a ski jumping hill for promotional activities in the summer. Seminar participants will then have the opportunity to share their experiences on creative summer activities in discipline-specific working groups led by the respective Chairmen of the FIS Youth and Children's Sub-Committees.

World Snow Day was launched during the FIS Spring meetings in Portoroz, and now with 115 days to go, over 30 Event Organizers have signed up. The FIS World Snow Day team will be on hand in Zürich to discuss the practical aspects and particularly to inform NSAs and Organizers who are not yet familiar with the details of the opportunities to participate and become part of the largest snow day of the year.. Moving into the final preparation phase, the World Snow Day team spends a great amount of time working closely with each of the Organizers to ensure the events will run as smoothly as possible.
