. world ski news : Innerhofer ready for North America, Nyman to miss season - 12 November 2011 - 11:13

ALPINE SKI. Christof Innerhofer is doing well and will be departing in direction of North America with the rest of the team on Monday. This was confirmed in a medical check on Friday in Milano by professor Maurizio Fornari who is part of FISI's Medical Commission.

The examination did not reveal any neurological symptoms and hence Innerhofer may take the journey over the ocean and join his teammates in training in Nakiska (CAN).

"I still have some headache," says Innerhofer, "but I am doing much better compared with the situation a few days ago. I think that by the time of the competitions in Lake Louise on 26th-27th November I will be just as I was before the incident." Innerhofer had a bad crash in training on the Stubai glacier last week.

Nyman to miss season

US racer Steven Nyman will miss the 2012 World Cup season following a training crash on 8th November in Colorado.

"Steven was evaluated Tuesday at the Steadman Clinic in Vail and diagnosed with a torn left achilles," said U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association Medical Director Kyle Wilkens. "He will miss the remainder of the 2011-12 World Cup season."

Nyman won the 2007 Saslong Classic World Cup downhill in Val Gardena, Italy, and owns two podium finishes at the legendary Audi Birds of Prey downhill in Beaver Creek.

"Blown Achilles tendon = no ski season for me this year," Tweeted Nyman. "Time to mend, I will be back."

The men's Audi FIS Ski World Cup speed season opens in Lake Louise, Canada on 26th-27th November.
