. world ski news : Norway's Lund Svindal wins Super G race at Lake Louise - 28 November 2005 - 13:33

Norway's Aksel Lund Svindal caused a second Lake Louise upset by winning the Super G in a time of 1:26.04 on Sunday, Benny Raich of Austria came second and Daron Rahlves (USA) third. Bode Miller and Hermann Maier finished 18th and 21st respectively. Saturday had seen Fritz Strobl win the Downhill.

It was Svindal's first ever World Cup win and the second podium place for Norway in as many days after Kjetil Andre Aamodt took second in Saturday's downhill.

"Fantastisk. I actually don't have much more to say. We are very happy together with Aksel", said the Norwegian World Cup chief, Marius Arnesen. - "To make your first WC win is truly great", Arnesen said.

Svindal was smooth and controlled and - at 95kg - built up great momentum into the finish to post what was to prove an unassailable time.

Benny Raich clocked 1:26.11 with American Daron Rahlves third in 1:26.12.

Ambrosi Hoffmann of Switzerland was fourth in 1:26.35, and had led for much of the event.

It was another disappointing day for World Cup champion Bode Miller, who almost came off his skis on his run and finished 18th after a similarly error-strewn effort on Saturday.

Austria's Hermann Maier - who was fourth in the Downhill - also paid for big mistakes when he'd started very well, finishing 21st after almost skiing off the course.
